Beginner's Guide to the Economy of POTBSBeginner's Guide to the Economy of POTBS
Introduction: This guide was written to help the beginner understand the basic of the Pirates of the Burning Sea economy and to help him get started on participating in it. Whether you are a Freetrader just starting out on your career, or a naval offier, pivateer or even pirate wanting a piece of the trading action, this is the place to look for answers to your newbie questions.
If you haven't done it yet, the first thing to do is visit the Auctioneer of your starting town and take the mission called "The Economy: Starting Out". He sends you to one of eight possible locations, depending on your nationality and level. At each of these locations, there will be a freetrader NPC who will guide you through the Economy Pirates of the Burning Sea Gold tutorial. The mission NPC and his/her assistant basically walk you through a tutorial aimed at teaching you the basics of the economy, so some of the content of this guide may be covered in that mission.
Building your warehouse: One important thing to remember is that each account is limited to ten lots for building trade structures. All structures in Pirates of the Burning Sea, with the exception of large shipyards, use up one lot per structures so unless you are planning on becoming a shipwright, this translates into a ten-structure limit.
Before you can even start building your production structures, you will need to build a warehouse at your selected port. Warehouse do not count towards your 10-lot limit, do not require upkeep and suffer no taxes, but it does cost your Pirates of the Burning Sea Money to build one. The first one costs 200 doubloons to build, but since the tutorial also provides you with seed money, you could say that the first one is pretty much free.
After talking to you about warehouse, the Freetrader contact will refer you to one of two associates who will continue the tutorial. I hope you picked wisely. As the port you chose will most likely be your first base of operations. I have listed the beginning ports below, with the resources available Pirates of the Burning Sea Gold at each port of choice, but you might want to look up these locations on a map as well. In order to see where they lie in relation to the rest of your potential market.
